The history of Nagarjuna Hill dates back to the 3rd century BCE, the reign of the Satavahana dynasty. Nagarjuna Hill gained significant prominence during the rule of the Ikshvaku dynasty in the 3rd and 4th centuries CE. Ikshvaku’s support led to the construction of numerous stupas, viharas (monasteries), and chaityas (prayer halls) in this area. Acharya Nagarjuna, one of the most influential figures in Mahayana Buddhism, played a crucial role in the development.

Two archaeologists started their search for the hidden ancient artefacts and treasures buried in the Nagarjuna Sagar area and the Reservoir. Unknown to them was a man who was more resourceful than they were. He had already been working in that zone for a long time and was enjoying the fruits of his labour. Adversaries with different ideologies and personalities confront each other to dominate the terrain.
